Basant is a film about celebration, color, festivities, raunchiness, noise music, mischief, and a lot of fun. It reveals how a culture normally seen as conservative and traditional, lets its hair down and has a good time.

The film takes place over a 24 hour period, on the frenzy of the final basant night and day. Through the course of this day long journey we are given glimpses of all the celebrations and preparations leading up to the final 24 hours.

It looks at historical, cultural and religious roots of the festival, as well as the business and industrial side including kite making, thread making, manja, special techniques, and how this obsession fuels massive industries and businesses, including paper, thread, kite-making, retail shops, specialists, packaging and transport.

In the end though the film is about one long, unending party, in an ancient city where people forget how to do everything except stare at the skies and have just have a good time.
