Kite flying is an obsession in the Punjab (India and Pakistan) and an infamous sport when it comes to showing off who is king. Its in the blood. Bets run high on kite battles, and many a wager has been known to reduce a man from riches to rags.

Each year from January to February the clear blue skies over the city of Lahore Pakistan, come alive with the splendour and colour of paper kites – in all shapes, sizes colors and patterns, celebrating the coming of spring.

Basant is a film about celebration, color, festivities, raunchiness, noise music, mischief, and a lot of fun. It reveals how a culture normally seen as conservative and traditional, lets its hair down and has a good time.

It looks at historical, cultural and religious roots of the festival, as well as the business and industrial side including kite making, thread making, manja, special techniques, and how this obsession fuels massive enterprises.
