Towards the end of the cold war, the USA and the USSR fought their proxy battles on the dry and arid landscape of Afghanistan. This was but another link in a long chain of such confrontations between outsiders.

A lifetime of war served only to intensify the sense of disillusionment and resentment for its civilians, resulting in major civil unrest and, paving the way for Islamic zealots to take over the country.

The evolving storyline draws a parallel between the tide of extremism that has gripped the region over the last decade, and what one can expect in the next decade, as a result of repeating the failed policies, this time by the only remaining superpower and its so called coalition of willing partners. The focus is on what might happen in 10 to 15 years when these children will be the social fabric of Afghanistan, including its government, the economy, the security, whether they are part of the elite leadership or not.

We now live in a highly polarized global world, with militancy and extremism taking a front seat in the furthering of ideologies. National borders, no longer contain those forces but do provide fertile grounds for nurturing them, resulting in events such as 911, Bali, Madrid, etc. These children provide ready seeds for this dangerously fertile soil.
